I just remember being absolutely swarmed by Zubats in every cave in the first game and having to watch the stupid battle animation before being allowed to run away, only to repeat the same thing every 5 steps was incredibly annoying. But being able to avoid them (no random encounters, you see the wild pokemon in the grass) is nice. I'm a bit skeptical of how they removed battling wild pokemon - it was always a challenge trying to lower their health as much as possible without fainting them. Sounds like they've gone a long way to making the Pokemon games more enjoyable and less of a chore. I haven't played Let's Go (don't have a Switch) but I love what I've heard about it.

They all have strengths and weaknesses, but I would honestly recommend running through them in the order they came out so you can get the full experience.Д®mulators also make level-grinding less miserable because they can fast-forward. Firered and Leafgreen are excellent remakes of the originals as well, and Emerald added a ton to the game by adding abilities, lots of new Pokemon, and in my mind a world that's more fun to explore. That's where the battle system was best-developed and least-gimmicky, though the range of Pokemon and designs you get is less well-regarded than those of the GBA or DS games.

If you have to play just 1 Pokemon game, play Pokemon Black or White. The GBA games strike a great balance between classic style and newer mechanics, and the early DS games do the same.

I don't know if they have 3DS emulators, but I honestly think that you can skip those. Since you have a PC, consider picking up a series of emulators. If you really do feel like you'd want a more modern pokemon experience, but don't wanna start with the latest game outright, go with HeartGold or SoulSilver, these are considered classics in the pokemon scene and many people consider them the best, while also being early gen so you won't feel too overwhelmed by new pokes hopefully. That said you could also go the Fire Red / Leaf Green route if you wanted the same familiarity of pokemon and characters but without the heavy pixelated graphics. It was a great game even if it has less mini games and whatnot to break up the combat, and while I may have nostalgia for it, I just started playing the first Castlevania today with zero nostalgia for that and it's fun even if it's old, I think most patient gamers should understand that sometimes simple isn't bad, and I feel that way about Pokemon without a doubt. I would definitely start with Gen 1, having it be all Gen 1 pokemon should make it feel more authentic overall, you'll be familiar with every poke you run into and you'll be playing as Ash from the show with gym leaders such as Misty and Brock etc. Can't even say I's recomend gen 1 at all, becouse altho I love thosd games and would pay stupid amounts of money to get it on my Switch, I think it's more to do with my nostalgia then the greatnes of the game, and not having played any others for more then an hour or so, I will let others make better suggestions.

With that said, I can't say I recomend gen 1 over anything else. All the 151 original pokemon, to me, feel like they are quite uniqe from eachother, the newer ones all feel a bit samish but with different colors to point out their types. Not sure if this is becouse of nostalgia or whatever, but to this day when I see anything other then a gen 1 pokemon, I feel like yes I see it's a pokemon, but in my eyes it's just a brightly colored monster of some sort, the 'original' stil feel like there is more thought behind the designs. I think mostly becouse the new pokemons felt like what today would be unlicensed reproduction, yes they are obviously pokemon, but they kinda lost their soul or something, the old ones felt more autentic. Gen 2 arrived, and I imidietly lost interest. I played red and yellow way back when, basicly grew up with it. Jokes aside, I have absolutly nothing to add to OP, sorry. What do you have against abused potatos? They need love too!
